The Cold Hard Facts about the Cleaning Chemicals in your Household

EARTH DAY 2020 is coming up on April 22. But at UltimateCloth, we believe that Every Day is an Earth Day and starts in the individual homes and businesses across America & beyond.

Yet, even with all the documented information I'm about to share with you, the fact of the matter is that people want to be 'GREEN', but are hard pressed to do so at the expense of time, money or effectiveness. Many of the products out today that are promoted as 'GREEN' are expensive and frankly... don't work as well as the caustic, messy cleaning chemicals and soaps that already have us frustrated. Also, you'd probably be surprised that in reading the labels and doing a little research, these conventional 'Green' cleaners may not be as 'eco-friendly' as they would have you believe.

Here are some Cold, Hard Facts to consider:

    • According to the EPA, the air quality inside your home is twice as dangerous as the air outside your home. We have a European lung study we will be sharing in a future post. (Please remind us in a couple weeks if we forget - there's a lot going on right now!) :)
      • Even before you step outside your house in the morning, you are exposed to more severe pollution than we get from landfills, hazardous waste sites or smokestacks say many scientists, including retired Environmental Protection Agency officials.
      • Approximately 70,000 chemicals are now in commercial production, many of which are used in household products - about 600 of these chemicals are known to cause cancer according to the Cancer Prevention Coalition.
      • As the number of studies about chemical risks reaches into the thousands, the toll of diseases they are suspected of causing is also mounting.
Sprays, pastes & other cleaning chemicals can be hazardous to your health. UltimateCloths are the safer, better way to clean
      • The President's Toxic Substances Strategy Committee warns 90% of all cancers are triggered by toxic chemicals in our home environment.
      • The EPA warns toxic chemicals in household cleaners cause women working at home to have a 55% HIGHER cancer risk than women working outside the home.
      •  The collection of cleaners under the average sink gives off volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Even when you keep bottles firmly closed can still exude VOCs into the air--fumes you and your children are breathing. VOCs have been implicated in everything from asthma and other respiratory problems to cancer. [Source: EPA]
      •  The average child visits the doctor 23 times in the 1st 4 years of life, with the most common complaint being respiratory ailment. [Source:National Center for Health Statistics]
      • Warning labels on containers refer only to toxic hazards from ingestion; however, only 10% of health problems from chemicals are caused by ingestion. 90% are caused by the inhalation of vapors and absorption of particles.
        • According to a National Academy of Sciences workshop, approximately 15 percent of the American population suffers from chemical sensitivity.
        • According to the EPA, indoor air pollution is one of the nation's most pressing personal health concerns.
